What do I send, and what do I get back?

Send the civil plan set as a PDF, the whole set if you have it, and tell us the bid date. You get back a PDF summary and a CSV: underground utility footage by utility type, per sheet, with a project total, measured footage separated from extrapolated, and a list of the sheets that carried no utility linework.

Which utilities do you count?

Accepted Answer

Every underground utility the set draws as linework: water, sanitary sewer, storm, gas, electric, communications and fiber, irrigation, and site lighting conduit, each counted separately. Overhead lines are excluded on purpose; they are not locatable and they are not what an excavation bid is priced on.

How fast can you turn a set around?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the sheet count, so we quote a delivery date with the price when you send the set. If the bid closes inside 48 hours, say so: rush work is priced per sheet on top of the standard rate, and we tell you before we start whether the date can be met rather than promise and miss.

Question 4

What if the plans are incomplete or hand-drawn?

Accepted Answer

An incomplete set gives a partial takeoff, and the summary says which sheets were missing. Scanned or hand-drawn sheets with no CAD layers can still be measured against the scale bar, but more of the footage ends up in the extrapolated column, and we tell you that up front so you can decide whether it is worth it.

Can my crew dig from the takeoff?

Accepted Answer

No. A takeoff is prepared for estimating only. It is not a substitute for field verification and it is not for construction or excavation use: plans get revised, as-builts drift from the drawings, and the ground is the only record that counts. Before the crew digs, call 811 and have the private lines located in the field.
